Improving the experiences of service users and their carers

People who use the services provided by the SfC&D sector currently make up about 70% of the UK population. And, as the population ages, this is increasing. People who use services and their carers are, more than ever, active participants in social care and social work provision, training and employment. They are no longer the passive recipients of services. SfC&D has engaged extensively with service users over the years, and your opinions have shaped our activities so that they reflect your needs, wants and aspirations.

SfC&D has developed numerous products to help those working in your services to be equipped to do so in the safest, and best way. By way of example, through SfC&D you can access the 'national occupational standards' (NOS) which describe the standard people in various roles should be working to. You can provide feedback or complaints to our delivery partners who regulate the workforce, nominate excellent social workers, care or children's workers for awards, or join one of our panels to directly to help shape our workforce development strategies and plans.

How to get involved

SfC&D's UK stakeholder panel aims to complement all the national and regional networks we have, and provide us with a formal mechanism to test out ideas and direction of travel for SfC&D's work on a UK level. The input that we get from contact with stakeholders informs our projects and strategy within each nation, and across the UK. This helps us to ensure that SfC&D has its finger on the pulse in terms of what the sector needs, so that we respond to this in all we do. If you are interested in being part of the UK panel, or finding out more about our service user and carer participation networks where you are, please contact hanna.buchheit@skillsforcareanddevelopment.org.uk

Please visit the 'Engage with us' section of this website to see what the current big issues are, and tell us what you think about them. Or, if you have a good idea and want to share it with us, please email sscinfo@skillsforcareanddevelopment.org.uk
